Housing Choices

The enclousure for Quasi and Tina is made of laminated pressboard and chicken wire. It is kept indoors, so that the temperature does not fluctuate wildly. The chicken wire is very popular with Tina, who clambers all over it. She looks very like a professional rock climber indeed. The cage has two levels, joined by a ramp. Due to laminated pressboard 's slippery surface,we have added acacia bark over so that it is easier to grip. Perspex railings were added for Quasi 's sake (hedgies have very bad sight).

The prickly partners' individual beds are hobbit-hole themed, made from green foam mats. The sides are held together with styrofoam glue and toothpicks. These little houses are hobbit-hole themed, just because it's something fun and different, while still maintaining a cozy look. The foam matting is easy to clean and is a very good insulator, keeping Quasi or Tina warm. We have, however, added heating pads to each "hobbit-hole" for extra warmth. Both Tina and Quasi have their houses customized to their  personal nap corners. These houses slide out for thorough cleaning, but it usually not necessary, because Quasi and Tina do their business elsewhere.

We have a wheel for them to exercise on, but only Tina actually uses it. Quasi was raised in a pet shop without a wheel, so the movement freaks him out. Hopefully he'll catch the idea from his over-active sister. They both have their own bowls and sand trays. Our sand trays are only ice cream containers with a side cut out for them to access the bathing sand. These trays also serve as litter trays.

All in all, the situation is a little squished, but tidy. Hopefully they can get along in the small space.
